We are an ordinary married couple, I am 37 and from the US and she is 32 and from Cebu, Philippines. We
have been married for 5 years presently. We met through a friend of hers, she and I were both skeptical
about the distance between us and both being from other countries. Once we talked for the first time I
knew she was different from any lady I met here in the US. We could talk for hours and never run out of
things to say to each other.

After talking and chatting for a few weeks we decided we wanted to meet and see if we get along as well in
person as we did talking and chatting. I went to the Philippines on February 15th, I wanted to be there on the
14th for Valentines day but flight delays changed my plans. When I arrived in Cebu I was greeted by her and
many family members. It was kind of a cultural shock to me at first. I was also a little scared getting in a van
with all these people and not really knowing them. Everything turned out fine and everyone was so friendly
to me.

Dating in the Philippines was also different, each family has there own beliefs. My wives family was more
traditional and believed in her having a chaperon. Which I respected and actually thought was a neat
tradition and not really practiced anymore here in the US. The first time we met I stayed 30 days after I
stayed there 21 days I had to go file a extension to stay the additional days. That wasn't hard at all I just
went to a travel agency and they handled that for me.
